Believe in the Power of Community
The book, Believe in the Power of Community, is the story about a giving community banding together to form an endowment fund that will last into perpetuity. It is a salute to those that have continually created innovative fundraising ideas and a historical record of those who have donated. It is a grateful thank you to the families who have participated in the Memoriums and Rememberences and a gesture of praise for all volunteer encountered along the way.
Over the first five years the Fort St. James Community Foundation Board of Directors has set out to educate the residents of the benefiting area on the concept of a Community Foundation. The goal of this book is to leave no questions unanswered. Vivien Lougheed-Travel writer of Prince George billed the book as “a memoir of the continuing efforts of residents of the Fort St. James area in forming a Foundation and reporting the joys of success. But the book does more-it is a historical record, manual for new board members, recognition of donors and volunteers and a comprehensive guide for other communities wishing to create a similar foundation.”
The author of the book, Joyce Helweg, has lived in Fort St. James since 1952. In her retirement she found her passion in writing non-fiction books and working with the Fort St. James Community Foundation.
